In healthcare, we always want to find new ways and modify existing interventions on how we can improve our patient’s health. Implementating new strategies as a nurse is a great way to get everyone involved, such as the individuals in leadership positions. One qualiy improvement stratgety that I believe is often overlook is the simply the importance of giving a good handoff report. I recently recognize that at my hospital a lot of nurses don’t give report as they should. Sometimes report is all over the place, which can lead to misinformation or missing information, or the nurse does not have all the information that is actually needed. I believe that if we are able to improve how report is given, then we would get to know our patients better, which will help us provide the best possible care for them. I believe that overtime, nurses may forget how to give a good report. It would be great to have leaders of the organization involved in this matter so that we can all strategize on ways on how we can improve this siutation.

Healthcare has advanced significantly over the years. That has been enabled by the application of different concepts of quality improvement (QI). McEwen and Wills (2017) identify QI as the commitment and approach used to scrupulously examine and continuously improve every process in every part of an organization. Quality improvement (QI) is one of the most critical elements when it comes to providing quality care. In healthcare, providers always strive to use quality knowledge to attain care quality. QI involves the use of data to improve the quality of care. That is where the healthcare providers use evidence-based practices, initiatives, and resources that are intended to provide urgent change and positive outcomes in healthcare. In that case, the healthcare providers need to use the available information to solve a healthcare problem rather than utilizing research-based methods which would take time to provide evidence. That is why QI involves more urgency when it comes to implementation. In my current practice, QI could be applied in improving discharging process to reduce delays. Hiponia (2019) identifies that communication during the process of discharging could help with the transition of a patient. Therefore, this calls for proper leadership where the leaders influence the discharging process.

Greetings, thank you for the opportunity that you have given to participate and contribute to this discussion actively. I also want to appreciate the fact that you took an interest in contributing to the discussion. Your post is well composed of good grammatically structured sentences. I will only add a few points to your posts. Quality improvement strategies are also informed and effective health interventions designed to enhance evidence-based clinical practice in improving health outcomes and performances (Timmermans et al., 2018).

Good hand-offs report influences patient safety (Müller et al., 2018). Therefore, effective communication strategies are essential in reducing the errors that arise with poor hand-offs reports. The nurses at your hospital can also be trained to apply the situation background assessment recommendation (SBAR) tool to improve their communication skills. This tool will also help them organize and manage their hand-off reports and enhance their relationship with the patients, thus better understanding the patients’ conditions (Müller et al., 2018).

Thank you for the opportunity to contribute to your post. In response to your discussion, quality improvement strategies also help to reduce mortality and morbidity rates globally. Based on nursing theorists’ concepts such as Florence Nightingale on handwashing techniques, many health organizations adopted the concept in reducing health acquired infections that have been a major cause of mortality rates worldwide (McEwen & Wills, 2018). An effective quality improvement must involve good leadership skills. Therefore, leaders must actively participate in the entire process of implementing quality improvement strategies.

Your hospital could also apply a quality improvement to ensure that unnecessary readmissions and delays are reduced, especially in emergency room settings. Nurses can be trained on effective measures to handle admission processes and control overcrowding in intensive care units and emergency rooms. These can be reduced by having motivational leaders who are highly interested in improving healthcare outcomes.
