Discussion: Collaborative Activity 2: Research and Report
Providing clear and actionable feedback to online students is a core skill that all successful online instructors understand and practice daily. Of course, there are many ways to do this, and there is no need to reinvent the wheel.
In this activity, take advantage of the vast and rapidly growing knowledge base generated by the many online instructors and online learning researchers who have come before you.

Review the Voices from the Field: Effective Online Instructors (Laureate Education, 2016b) from this module’s Learning Resources, and conduct independent research on the Internet or in the Walden library to identify helpful resources and effective practices for providing feedback to online students.

Providing Feedback
Providing actionable and clear feedback to online classroom students is a fundamental skill that online educators must possess. There are a variety of approaches that these educators use to provide feedback to their students.
Some of the most practical methods and practices used by the instructors to give them feedback on the learning process are offering quizzes, preparation of twitter summaries, and development of screencasts.
Quizzes refer to questions after the end of the learning session. These quizzes help the online learner to reflect on the learned content. Besides, the instructor can know whether the student acquired ample knowledge through evaluation made through the quizzes (Kauffman, 2015).
After the assessment, the instructor formulates new methods of delivering the content if the students were observed to have retained little information.
Twitter summaries refer to short notes or reviews. An online student should prepare and present concise summaries after learning a particular course or a chapter of a book. By restricting the twitter summary to 140 words or fewer, the online learner can filter and retain the main points after a study (Suen, 2014).
This method is essential in evaluating the information retention ability of the learners when the instructor goes through the summary.
Online scholars suggest that screencast is the most effective method of obtaining feedback from an online classroom. The students create the screencasts in the form of a mock presentation. The screencast consists of both the presentation content and a webcam video.
The students deliver the narration where other students can ask him questions through social media platforms such as skype (Lee, 2014). As the student prepares, the screencast, he or she can reflect and internalize the important points or content. Also, the instructor can observe the student as he or she presents the material and get the feedback.
